Announcing STV.ca - Our New Campaign Website!
In the 2005 referendum on electoral reform, voters strongly endorsed the non-partisan Citizens' Assembly by voting nearly 58% in favour of the Single Transferable Voting system (STV) they recommended. However, the government had decided to only honour the result if 60% of the voters approved, so they did not implement STV for the 2009 election. But, because of the strong support shown by BC voters for reform, they could not ignore the referendum's outcome entirely, so they decided that there will be a 'do-over' referendum in May 2009 with some further clarification about the district boundaries that would be used under STV.
This time around, we are confident that BC voters will be even more aware of and comfortable with the Citizens' Assembly's recommendation and will put the vote over the top. To learn more about the Citizens' Assembly, their recommended STV system, or how you can help ensure that we have fair, responsible, responsive government, please visit our new website: stv.ca.
